Why nobody can give you a flat price over the phone
Two holes that look the same in a photo can be very different jobs. One is a doorknob hole in a smooth hallway wall. The other is the same size hole in a knockdown-textured wall next to a window where afternoon light hits it. The second one takes longer to make disappear, and that is the whole job: a repair you can’t find afterward.
At Patch Plus Paint we quote every job individually, for free, usually within one business day. Here is what we look at.
The five things that move the price
1. Size and number of repairs. A single nail pop is quick. Ten nail pops across three rooms is a morning. A section cut back to the studs after a leak is a different category again, because the drywall itself is replaced, not patched.
2. Texture. Smooth walls are the fastest to patch. Orange peel, knockdown, hand texture, and popcorn each take a different technique, and matching them so the patch blends into the wall around it is skilled work. Texture matching is the part most handymen get wrong, and the part our customers mention most in reviews.
3. Whether it gets painted. A patch is not finished until it is painted. If you have leftover paint in the right color, that helps. If the wall needs the whole surface repainted so there is no visible line, that is more paint and more time, but it is also the cleanest result on ceilings and in rooms with strong light.
4. What caused the damage. Water damage means we first make sure the leak is fixed, then cut out anything that got wet, and seal the stain so it can’t bleed back through. Painting over a water stain without sealing it almost always fails.
5. Access. A patch on a two-story foyer ceiling needs ladders or scaffolding. A patch behind a toilet needs the toilet tank moved. Neither is a problem, but both take time.
What does not change the price
You don’t pay twice for two trades. One crew does the drywall, the texture, and the paint in the same visit. That is the reason we started the business, and it is why a repair from us costs less overall than hiring a drywall contractor and then a painter.
